Clover Club is established.
1883
Founded by a group of 12 Irish-Americans that includes Thomas Riley, it was created in response to the exclusion of Irish-Americans from The city’s Brahmin social clubs. Incorporated in 1914, its purpose is to promote “the social enjoyment of its members.” Unlike other social clubs in Boston, the mens-only club operates without a headquarters and becomes known for its thrice-annual dinners, which feature performances of parodies of popular songs, and continues today.
